Tanzania is a member of Southern African Development Community (SADC) and East African Community (EAC). Tanzania through TCU, has adopted regional frameworks for credit transfer that align with both SADC Qualifications Framework (SADCQF) and the East African Qualifications Framework for Higher Education (EAQFHE). These frameworks standardise credits allocation, making it easier for students within the regions to transfer credits between universities in EAC and SADC member states to Tanzanian universities and vice versa, allowing seamless students transfers without academic disadvantages.

The TCU ensures that Tanzanian higher education institutions recognise and honour credits transferred from universities within the EAC and SADC regions, and beyond. Similarly, Tanzanian credits are recognised by universities in other member states, and beyond, promoting seamless academic progression across borders and the global.

By promoting students’ mobility, faculties collaborations, and cross-border research, the Credit Accumulation and Transfer system allows Tanzanian students to pursue studies within EAC and SADC without losing credits. The system strengthens higher education harmonisation, enhances institutional competitiveness, and supports national and regional development through an integrated quality assured credit transfer mechanism.
