MINISTER MKENDA'S VISIT REINFORCES STRATEGIES FOR STRENGTHENING HIGHER EDUCATION QUALITY
The Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Prof. Adolf Mkenda, has commended the Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU) for its continued professionalism, integrity and accountability in discharging its mandate of ensuring that higher education in Tanzania complies with nationally, regionally and internationally recognised quality standards.
Prof. Mkenda made the remarks today, 29 June 2026, during an official visit to the TCU offices in Dar es Salaam, accompanied by the Deputy Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Wanu Hafidh Ameir. During the visit, the two leaders held discussions with the Commission's Management and members of staff on the progress of higher education in Tanzania and the Commission's pivotal role in strengthening quality assurance across the sub-sector.
Addressing TCU staff, Prof. Mkenda noted that the Commission has continued to fulfil its statutory responsibilities in accordance with the established laws, regulations and procedures. He observed that this commitment has significantly contributed to enhancing the quality of higher education and strengthening stakeholders' confidence in the country's higher education system.
For her part, the Deputy Minister, Hon. Wanu Hafidh Ameir, underscored the importance of TCU further strengthening quality assurance systems by continuing to provide appropriate guidance to universities and ensuring effective enforcement of the legal and regulatory framework governing university institutions.
She emphasised that a robust quality assurance system is fundamental to producing graduates equipped with the knowledge, skills and competencies required to compete effectively in the labour market and contribute meaningfully to national, regional and global development.
Speaking during the visit, the Executive Secretary of TCU, Prof. Charles Kihampa, stated that the Commission has continued to improve service delivery to the public and stakeholders through the adoption of digital systems, thereby enhancing efficiency, transparency and accessibility.
He further affirmed that the Commission will continue to work closely with stakeholders to ensure that universities in Tanzania provide high-quality education that responds to the country's development priorities while meeting international standards of excellence.
The visit reaffirmed the Government's commitment to strengthening the institutional capacity of TCU, enabling the Commission to continue executing its mandate of safeguarding and enhancing the quality of higher education in Tanzania.
