Arusha - March 8, 2025

In a powerful display of unity and empowerment, female staff members of the Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU) joined thousands of women across the country to commemorate International Women’s Day at the national event held at Sheikh Amri Abeid Stadium in Arusha on March 8, 2025. The vibrant celebration was graced by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Her Excellency Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, who served as the guest of honour.

Addressing the enthusiastic crowd, President Samia applauded the remarkable strides made in fostering gender equality in Tanzania, highlighting the transformative impact of policy reforms, legal amendments, and economic empowerment initiatives aimed at bridging the gender gap.

"Through policy reforms, legal amendments, and various economic empowerment initiatives, we have significantly reduced gender inequality between men and women," she remarked, receiving resounding applause from attendees.

TCU's Active Participation Across Regions

TCU played a significant role in this year’s International Women’s Day commemorations, engaging in both national and regional-level events in Dodoma and Dar es Salaam.

In Dar es Salaam, TCU women staff proudly marched in a grand procession at Leaders Club Grounds, where the Regional Commissioner, Hon. Albert Chalamila, presided as the guest of honour. Meanwhile, in Dodoma, the celebrations were held at Chinangali Grounds, led by District Commissioner, Hon. Alhaj Jabir Shekimweri.

A Theme of Strength and Progress

With a forward-looking theme, “Women and Girls 2025: Strengthening Rights, Equality, and Empowerment,” this year’s celebrations underscored the ongoing commitment to fostering an inclusive society where women and girls have equal opportunities to thrive.

As the sun set on the day’s vibrant events, one thing was clear, Tanzanian women, including those at TCU, are not just celebrating their achievements but also paving the way for future generations. The journey towards equality continues, fueled by resilience, commitment, and a shared vision of progress.
