TCU Joins Bunge Marathon in National Call to Support Education Development

The city of Dodoma was abuzz with energy today April 12, 2025 as thousands of participants converged for the highly anticipated Bunge Marathon, an inspiring event that united Members of Parliament, institutional leaders, civil servants, and citizens in a collective demonstration of solidarity and national purpose. Among the distinguished participants was the Chairperson of the Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU), Dr. Leonard Akwilapo, whose involvement underscored the education sector's enduring commitment to national development.

Organised by the Office of the Parliament of the United Republic of Tanzania, the marathon featured race categories spanning 5, 10, and 21 kilometers. Participants, adorned in vibrant athletic attire and waving national and institutional flags, embarked on their respective courses early in the morning, cheered on by enthusiastic supporters who lined the streets. The event fostered a festive and unified atmosphere throughout the capital.

The Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hon. Kassim Majaliwa (MP), presided over the occasion, leading by example and highlighting the importance of inclusive civic engagement as a catalyst for societal progress. In her address, Dr. Ackson emphasised the critical role of collaborative efforts in advancing the country’s education system and called upon all stakeholders to take an active role in this national endeavour.

TCU’s delegation, comprising senior leadership and staff members, participated with great zeal, representing the higher education sector’s active involvement in promoting social transformation. Their engagement served as a strong statement of the Commission’s unwavering dedication to advancing quality education and fostering inclusive development across Tanzania.

“This is more than just a race, it is a movement,” affirmed Dr. Akwilapo. “Our presence here today reflects our firm belief that a stronger and more inclusive education system can only be achieved through shared commitment and meaningful collaboration with the community.”

TCU’s participation formed part of a broader initiative to engage the public and strengthen partnerships aimed at transforming the national education landscape. As participants completed their respective races, the event sent a powerful and unified message: that sustainable development is rooted in unity, civic participation, and a shared vision for the future.

The Bunge Marathon concluded in an atmosphere of celebration and renewed commitment, with participants departing not only with medals and memories, but also with strengthened resolve to contribute meaningfully to the progress of the nation. It was a day when each stride symbolised hope, unity, and the collective journey toward a brighter educational future.
