TCU Engages Stakeholders on Gender-Based Violence Awareness in HEET Project

In a proactive effort to promote community well-being, the Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU) convened a crucial meeting with stakeholders to raise awareness on gender-based violence (GBV) among residents surrounding its ongoing construction project. The project, implemented under the Higher Education for Economic Transformation (HEET) initiative and funded by the World Bank, involves the construction of TCU’s Head Office building at Ilazo-Mbuyumi, Ipagala Ward in Dodoma.

Stakeholders Commend TCU’s Community Engagement

Opening the meeting, Gombo Kamuli Dotto, Councillor of Ipagala Ward, lauded TCU for organising the session, emphasizing its importance in ensuring community welfare as the project progresses.

“This initiative reflects a commendable commitment by TCU to engage and educate the local community. Raising awareness on gender-based violence is not just essential for the safety of women and vulnerable groups, but also for fostering harmony and development in the area,” said Councillor Dotto.

The stakeholders’ meeting served as a platform for discussions on preventing GBV, ensuring the protection of rights, and addressing community concerns related to the project. Participants were encouraged to collaborate in advocating for gender equality and social justice as part of the broader impact of the HEET initiative.

The meeting brought together a diverse group of key stakeholders, including Religious Leaders, Civil Society OrganizationsTheir presence underscored the collective commitment to addressing social issues that may arise within the project’s vicinity.

With the construction of TCU’s Head Office expected to be completed in 2026, such engagements reaffirm the institution’s dedication to fostering a safe and informed community. The meeting highlighted the importance of sustainable development that prioritises human rights, community engagement, and inclusive progress.
