TCU Audit Committee Conducts On-Site Inspection to Assess Progress of New Headquarters Construction

Dodoma, January 31, 2025

In a major stride toward strengthening university education quality assurance, the Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU) is spearheading the implementation of the Higher Education for Economic Transformation (HEET) Project. Among its key components is the construction of a state-of-the-art TCU office building, a move expected to enhance the Commission’s operational efficiency and service delivery.

The new TCU headquarters, strategically located at Kisasa Area B in Dodoma, is set to become a central hub for higher education oversight and policy implementation in Tanzania. Following a rigorous tendering process, the construction contract was officially awarded to Ms. Holtan Builders Ltd on November 1, 2024. On the same date, the project site was formally handed over to the contractor, marking the commencement of construction activities.

Audit Committee Assesses Progress on Site

As part of its oversight mandate, the TCU Audit Committee, led by its Chairperson, Prof. Lughano Kusiluka, conducted an on-site visit on January 31, 2025, to evaluate the progress of the construction project. The visit aimed to ensure that the project adheres to the approved plans, timelines, and quality standards established under the HEET initiative.

During the visit, Prof. Kusiluka expressed satisfaction with the progress achieved thus far and underscored the significance of timely and high-quality execution. He emphasised that the project is not merely about constructing a building but rather about establishing an institutional framework that will enhance efficiency, and drive growth in Tanzania’s higher education sub-sector.

A Vision for the Future of Higher Education

The construction of the TCU headquarters is a significant milestone under the HEET Project. Once completed, the new office will enable TCU to better regulate and support universities across the country, ensuring they deliver quality education aligned with national and global standards. The project is expected to boost higher education management, improve service delivery, and provide a modern workspace for TCU staff. It also reflects the Tanzanian government’s commitment to strengthening institutions that play a critical role in the country’s socio-economic transformation.

Looking Ahead

With construction now underway, stakeholders are eagerly anticipating the completion of the new TCU headquarters, which is set to become a symbol of educational excellence and institutional development in Tanzania. As the HEET Project continues to unfold, the future of Tanzania’s higher education sub-sector looks brighter than ever!
